We have had to change 3 of our market dates for 2012 due to a another market of a similar nature booking on the same day as ours. The only people we see this affecting is the stall holders who are our main concern and the reason we exist.

So the 2012 dates are

18th February (this remains the same)
28th April
16th June
18th August
27th October (this is also the same)

Protect a Bed

A while back I held a little competition for people to trial products by Protect a Bed.

The lovely Tamara has just come back to me with the following.

Thank for the opportunity to road test the cot mattress protector.

I found the protector to fit the mattress snuggly unlike a lot of brands I have tried. It draws moisture away very similar to other products on the market, however I also found I didn't have to change it as much. When washing it the protector cleaned so much better. I discovered with other products after a couple of washes the lining underneath would be stained and wear away, but with this product it cleaned up a treat.

My one year old it a hot bod so I'm very glad that this product breathes much better. I will definitely be buying more and I recommend this product to all parents.

Blogger Brunch Product Fun

Before I went to Bali last month I was lucky enough to be invited to an awesome Bloggers Brunch organized by the most fabulous Christie Nicholas who wrote the book 'The Mum who Roared' that I am about to delve into. She also runs a site called Mumswap so a very busy lady.

50 Mummy Bloggers were invited where we were inspired by some other amazing women with incredible stories to tell.

We also had the chance to take home some products to trial which I was more than happy to do. I got a whole goody bag from Garnier and have been most happy with the Anti-dark circles Roll on. In the last few years I have been getting bigger and bigger dark circles and getting more and more self conscious about them. After a month of using the product I do believe I look better. I am actually quite surprised but there you have it.

I also got to try a few of the new 7 day intensive body lotions. They were very nice but really didn't keep me hydrated for 7 days. I had dry skin from Bali and was excited to see how it would perform but still needed to apply everyday.

I was super lucky to win one of the major giveaways on the day which was a Homedics massage chair cushion. Anyone who knows me will know I LOVE a massage and would have one every day if I could. Guess what? I can , in fact I am having one right now while I type. A little shiatsu on my lower back with a little heat....mmmmm!!!!!! I love it!!!!

I also got to take home one of the neck massagers which is a lovely treat and the kids are enjoying that one. Totally recommend checking out these products. All I need is a little foot one under my desk and I am set. Christmas maybe...

Last but not least were some Blackmores products. Happy to say that I am totally loving the Womens D-Stress. I do tend to over schedule my life and then turn into a complete stress head and these have been helping take the edge off naturally.

The children are very happy with the kids multi which means we have not had a cold in sight to try the all natural Cough Combat but I bet it rocks!!! I will say that I have tried giving the kids fish oil disguised in little fishy shapes and have wasted a lot of $$$ with them spitting them out as soon as they touched their tongues. I have however managed to totally pull the wool over their taste buds and they are taking the Blackmores kids fruity fishies...yeh!!!!

I am off to enjoy my massage...

Once again time is flying and we have another market on this Saturday. Much to our dismay and I am sure to alot of people the new center is still not available, only 9 months late, not that we are counting. This does not mean that we don't have a great day planned with loads of great bargains to be had.

We have Rix Street kinder on board and they will be running the sausage sizzle and our first ever cake stall. Yum Yum!!!!

Geelong Toy Libraries are with us for the first time doing some fundraising.

We have the super talented Michelle from Alot of Faces creating some great painted faces for the little ones.

Many of you know that our point of difference from other similar Markets is that we not only sell amazing pre loved goods but we have nearly 20 business stalls who have everything to do with babies and children's. NEW Kids Fun and Fitness Club

I received an email from Jac, another twin Mum about a new Children's Fitness Club she is starting up which sounds both fabulous and positive. I love the idea. Here is what Jac says...

"With the birth of my beautiful twins many things had to take a back step. 18 mths on and I am ready for some ’mummy’ time and I can not think of a better way to spend it than finally getting this program up and running with friend and fitness trainer Jase Lydom. Both of us, in our independent fields, have been approached by many parents time and time again, about starting up a childrens program and well, with the stars aligned, here it is. With my 25 yrs teaching experience ( Specialising in P.E) and Jase’s extensive experience in the fitness industry and his knowledge on nutrition we are very excited to come together and launch our new childrens program.

To give you a little bit more info, the training sessions are designed to get kids aged between 6 and 10 years outside and having fun with fitness in a safe and supportive environment.
The sessions will involve :developing the childrens confidence,

hand/eye co-ordination,

teaching them the correct principles of a variety of exercises,

and nutritional advice that give them the tools to make informed decisions of what is good for their body and their health

….. and all the while having fun whilst learning.

My Market Bargains

Well Saturday was a great day. We tend to attract crazy weather on market days and this time it was heat free, wind free, rain free which is what makes us very happy.

We had just under 500 shoppers and I saw bags full of goodies walk out the door. A friend got a $1100 Quinny pram for $200 and it looked brand new to me.

I got a few things as well but didn't have much time for a proper shop this time. This is what I did pick up.

Happy New Year!!!!

School has gone back which means Summer Holidays are over and we are ready to hit the ground running for another big year. This Saturday is the first market for 2011 and it has been a while since we saw you all. Sadly the new building will not be ready for us, but we will absolutely be in for April. We have lots of new stall holders both second hand and businesses.

I don't know about you but money just seemed to disappear through my fingers over the holidays and yet the kids still need things. Rather then spending more money on full priced items come on down and find a great bargain. Remember we don't just cater for babies, plenty of great specials for older kids too. I am still finding plenty for my 5 and 7 year olds.

Over the last few Markets I got barely worn size 13 Clarkes School Shoes for $10...wow!!!! an Ikea Egg chair for $50 (normally $140) gorgeous size 6 Country Road Jeans in almost new condition for $12, a size 6 ski suit for $10. The list goes on and on. Cant even begin to list what I would have saved on all the essentials like car seats, cots, prams etc over the past 5 years.

GAMBA ( Geelong Area Multiple Birth Association) will be there running a sausage sizzle and we will also be having some fun Fairy Floss as a treat for the kids.

1. How did you first hear about the Market?
I think Ariston was where I originally heard about it. Can't remember, it was so many years ago now!!

2.How many times have you been a stall holder?
For several years. I think I joined after the second or third market.

3. What do you love about the Market?
I love that it's putting good stuff to use again and giving it a new life, rather than becoming landfill. I also love that it is a real community gathering (on the day) that ends up supporting a really worthy community group (GAMBA). It's also a great place for networking and socializing!

4. Why should people come down and have a look?
There are the best bargains to be had in Geelong! Whether you are after brands or not, you are sure to find some really good cheap stuff. Also, your support, supports a local community group- not a business.

5. Tell us a bit about your business?
Home and Away Baby Hire has been servicing Geelong and the Bellarine and Surfcoast for 10 years. We hire out baby equipment on both short and long-term rental. Our main stock would be capsules for newborns, but we have a huge range of hire items available from bassinets to boxes of toys. Our website (www.babyhire.com.au) is full of information on prices and products available and you can also book directly online, if you wish.

Another service we offer is professional restraint fitting (either a hire item or your own) that is fully accredited and insured. Included in this service is instruction and demonstration on the best and safest practices when using a child restraint. (Being a mother of 2 small children, I can also give advice from experience on positioning seats in cars etc)

6. What makes you unique?
Home & Away Baby Hire was developed by a Geelong mother who wanted to provide a much-needed service to other parents in the local community. This has since expanded throughout Victoria and New South Wales, with more states to follow! The business strongly focuses on great customer service. This will often extend to providing extra information or advice, accommodating special requests or after hours trips to the hospitals if needed!

Mary and Max - The Exhibition

How has everyone survived the wettest week I can remember? I was enjoying a few days at home getting things done but by Wednesday was going a little crazy. Tried going to the movies but the rest of Geelong had the same idea. I ended up taking the kids to the Mary and Max exhibition at the Geelong Gallery which we all really enjoyed.

Go behind-the-scenes of the marvelous miniature world of Adam Elliot's animated film Mary and Max.

Oscar award-winning director and writer Adam Elliot, in collaboration with the Australian Centre for the Moving Image, has developed an exhibition of the plasticine world of Mary and Max that includes character models, costumes, sets, storyboards, props from the film and footage of the animators at work.

The film itself which I saw last night is possibly a bit to grown up for the kids to watch in full but the exhibition is fabulous. It is on until the 13th of February and is FREE. We also took a stroll around the rest of the gallery whilst we were there.

A reminder that the next Baby and Children's Market and the first for the year is on Saturday 12th February. There as usual will be loads of amazing 2nd hand goods for sale as well as new businesses with their amazing products and services.

October Market Wrap Up

Hello....sorry I have been absent, life is very crazy this time of year and its hard to see light at the end of the tunnel for a while.

Our October 30 Market was great. Due to the weather it was quieter than usual so thank you to the people who did brave the elements and come out to support us.

There were so many amazing bargains walking out the door as well as some wonderfully unique new handmade products being snapped up for Xmas presents. I am always amazed at the quality of all the 2nd hand items and the savings that can be made. Seeing a $600 pram in great condition going out for $180, an exquisite cradle for $50 (you read right) and an array of beautiful timbers cots between $80 and $200.

The new building is coming along nicely and fingers and toes crossed we will be in there for February 12th with a big fanfare. Keep watching the blog and facebook for updates as it will be a great event.

Fuzzy Creations

We have a new stall holder on board with some really great products.

Fuzzy Creations products are handmade felt finger puppets, each puppets is machine sewn and has 3d google eyes with handpainted detail.

They have a range of over 150 single puppets, about 25 different themed sets, over 30
Nursery Rhymes which are packaged with laminated lyric sheets which puppets
(characters from the Nursery Rhymes) are attached to the lyric sheets with Velcro dots. They have 7 songs which have been very popular as it’s great to use the puppets for doing actions while singing the songs and also have a wide range of books which have puppet characters from the story that are sold with the books.

Sally from gerta has been a regular stall holder since the very beginning and we love her beautiful work. Impossibly beautiful, soft and adorable clothing and blankets.

From a young age Sally was hooked on knitting and sewing. Both her mother and grandma taught her the craft. The name gerta comes from sally's grandma Gertrude, who ran a knitwear shop in Geelong. She is the inspiration behind the label. This photo is of her grandma outside her shop. She is the one on the left hand side.

gerta started from a range of hand-knitted baby blankets and has blossomed into knitted beanies, jumpers, jackets, booties and toys. Most products are made from 100%Australian wool except for the blankets, which are made from acrylic.

We are really happy that Mila from Scarlett Tree will be back at the Baby Market as she has such gorgeous things. I had Mila at Piccadilly Market last weekend and everyone loved her work. Mila also featured in a great article in the GT that we had on Marketable Mums.

This butterfly mobile is simply divine and very feminine.

Mila also has a range of beautiful canvases in all sizes and colour themes.

The electoral commission managed to secure another venue for their polling booth so we are back at Vines Road on the 21st August as originally booked.

Important Date Change

As you all know the election has been called for Saturday August 21st and this morning we received a call that Vines Road is taken over as a polling booth and we have absolutely no say in the matter.

As you can imagine Susan and I are stressed and upset but unfortunately there is nothing we can do.We have all our flyers with the date on it which we can’t change but we can alter our advertising and boards.

What does this mean?

We have managed to book for Saturday 28th August where it will be business as usual.

Please let as many people as you can know about the date change.

Another Successful Market

When Susan and I heard the weather report of a cold rainy day we were a little worried. There was no need, you all came out in your droves and we had just short of 700 adults through the door to shop from over 50 stalls of 2nd hand, new products and great services available to parents.

Sitting on the front door I saw so many wonderful bargains walk out the door. I love to see the world recycle and reuse.

We had lots of entries to our competition and the lucky winners were:

Lauren who won the newborn Photography package from Jolie. When I called Lauren she was so excited as her new baby was due that day.

With only a few days to go till the November 7th Market we have been swamped with calls about the fencing that now surrounds the Centre. Basically it will be business as usual as the building begins on the new $20 million dollar new development that encompasses Western Heights High School and Vines Road Community Centre. It will be built in front of the original building and should be ready by the end of 2010. Susan and I have seen the plans and it looks amazing and we know that if we are very patient, a year will speed by and we will then have a new home for the market in a state of the art facility.

So we ask that all our sellers and buyers hang in there and before we know it, it will be finished. We will lose the front car park by the February Market but there will be plenty of altrenative parking areas.

Our February Market only has a handful of stalls left so the next one up for grabs is May 2010 so if you are clearing out your garage and cupboards, book in now.

We have an interesting new business at the next Market that may interest people.

July Market Wrap Up

Once again we have had a very succesful Market. A VERY cold start to the day but no rain so no complaints from us. We had 30 second hand stalls , 20 businesses and 640 shoppers through the door. Most of the large ticket items were sold within the first hour and a half and I saw that a couple of the stall holders sold practically everything they brought to sell. From walking around and chatting to all our stall holders everyone was very happy wih their sales and judging by the amount of bags and arms piled high walking out the door, the shoppers were very happy.

I myself sold a stroller, 2 car seats and a tricycle and some clothes. I managed to pick up some amazing bargains for my children. Country Road Jeans, Eeni Meeni Pyjamas, 2 Mini Metalicus Tops, 2 Country Road Tops, a Country Road Skirt, A Dolls Chair, Spiderman Walkie Talkies, a lightsabre, dinosaur and amazing drawing book all for $60 that would easily have cost me between $300 and $400. This is why I love running this market. Its a win/win situation for everyone and our impact on the environment is reduced which makes me happy.

We are madly taking bookings for February and I even took a call for May yesterday. Wow!!!!

2010 Dates and Krispy Kreme Donuts

Only 2 sleeps to go.
I always say this..... but I really think this is going to be the best market yet. As this is our 7th Market in over 2 years I think we get better with each one. We have learnt procedures, what works and what doesnt and have some awesome stall holders.

Once again we are fund raising with Krispy Kreme Donuts. If you have never had them before, you seriously dont know what you are missing. If you have had them, then you know exactly what I am talking about. I am actually not a huge donut lover but these are GOOD.

Due to demand we are moving from 3 to 4 Markets in 2010. Our November Market sold out last week and we are taking bookings for February. WOW!!!!! So the dates are:

Saturday February 20th
Saturday May 29th
Saturday August 21st
Saturday November 20th

I would most definately suggest booking February ASAP.

12 days to go....how did that happen?
This year is speeding by so fast that July 18th is almost here.
We have been sold out for a few months now and have about 5 stalls left for November.
Susan and I are about to release 2010 dates so watch this space.

March Market Wrap Up

Market Number 6 is finished and its time to work on July. What a great day, we had 550 buyers through the door, 200 of which were there by 9.20 am to snap up some awesome bargains. Within moments I was giving people stamp outs to load their cars and come back for more. We had a few stalls outside including Contours Gym handing out their signature balloons to all the kids. The Jumping Castle was a hit and Rix Street Kinder had everyone well fed at the Sausage Sizzle. I managed to pick up some great items including a booster seat at a fraction of the retail cost, an Ikea Egg Chair which is the new place for my kids to hide out and some great clothes.

I was really happy to see lots of stall holders selling for the 3+ age group. A huge number of our stall holders rebooked for July as well as some new sellers meaning we are now sold out for July and have a waitlist. If you are thinking of selling your goods at the November Market, please book now to avoid disapointment.

One Week To Go

Yeh!!! Its only 7 days until the next Geelong Baby and Childrens Community Market and its shaping up to be a fantastic one. We have loads of great 2nd hand bargains as well as over 20 businesses with lots of new and handmade items. I will update in the next few days with what type of Large Items we will have on offer.

Most of our followers know that we are very keen to support our local community. We raise funds for the Geelong Area Multiple Birth Association and at this market we have given the Sausage Sizzle to my childrens Kinder, Rix Street Kindergarten. They will be raising funds also so in essence we are a double fundraiser.

It is well known that the Victorian Bushfires have touched us all in one-way or another. I am shocked and saddened by the total devastation of the bushfires and want to help in whatever way I can. The sheer devastation that towns, businesses, homes and families have had to endure is heart retching and I want to reach out and support the communities. Even though almost 100 million has been raised already, it does not even scratch the surface so please help us to help them. My goal is to raise at least $2000

To do this, I have decided to hold a Chefs Toolbox Fundraising Event with ALL the proceeds from ticket sales and 10% of total sales from the evening to go to the Bush Fire Appeal. Chefs Toolbox will also give $400 (WOW!) to the Appeal for each person who joins the Chefs Toolbox as a Consultant on the night!

The Fundraiser is being held at the Vines Road Community Centre on Tuesday 24th February at 7pm for a 7.15 start. Tickets will be sold prior and there are limited seats available so get in quick to help us to help the Victorian Bushfire Appeal. Tickets are $20 and are fully tax deductible. Please dig deep and help our fellow Australians in the best way that we know…generously and come along to an enjoyable night out.

As an Independent Consultant for The Chefs Toolbox, I will be offering a Cooking Show where food, fun and flavour all come together for a fantastic experience.

Maternity Sale

Hi all

I am sure you are all reeling from the Bushfire devestation. Words cannot explain how I feel right now, the loss of life is just astounding. Susan and I are working on how we can use the next Market to help. By then there may be a clear idea of exactly what is needed and I can let you all know through the blog.

On a lighter note, one of our previous stall holders has sold her Maternity Store in Ballarat and has put all the left over stock in the Hansel and Gretel clearance store in Highton. There is also additional discounted stock from the manufacturers available. Most stock is 50% off - some up to 70% or more off. (shop 2, 89 Barrabool Rd, Highton).

The shop is open Wed - Fri 10am - 3pm and Sat 9 - 1pm. Current season stock (including Winter 09). They also still have Pure Baby stock available at 50% off.

Hope someone gets to pick up a bargain.

I hope you survived the heat. What kind of madness is 47.9%?, hottest in the State here in Geelong Town. We managed to cool off in my Aunts' pool. Anyway, I keep getting asked about my necklace which consists of 3 dog tags with my childrens names and birth dates plus one larger one that says Bebe Love. I used to have it on a bracelet but the clinking drove me nuts so I recently moved it up with my Tiffany's heart. So I thought I would share where I got them from. I ordered through MommyTags, they are located in the States and as they are light the postage was not crazy and they were very prompt with their delivery.

The Start of Someting New

Well, I decided that it was time we caught up with the trends and start a blog and move away from a website. I am hoping that this will work and that you wil find this a great new way of communicating with all our new and old loyal followers. I will endeavour to get everything up and on this blog over the next few weeks so in the mean time please bear with me.

There is good news and bad news. The good being that we are sold out for March 21st Market so we can now just focus on getting lots of keen buyers through the doors looking for an amazing bargain. The bad news is that means we have to turn away lots of wonderful potential stall holders. If you are keen on having a stall at the July 18th Market, I urge you to book in now as it is also filling fast.

So just a short entry for my first ever blog post.
